A ‘Star’ is born

The new Star Lotus range is now underway, the first piece pictured below is a pair of stud earrings.  The Star Lotus, like the Blue Lotus, has been inspired by historic Indian jewellery.  The Lotus flower is significant in many Eastern cultures and is the national flower of India.  The Star Lotus range, is a smaller two dimensional form of the Blue Lotus and will be available to purchase for Christmas.

New images by Simon Armitt

When I was down at IJL at the beginning of this month, I had the opportunity to have three of my Blue Lotus pieces professionally photographed by Simon B Armitt, a jewellery and body adornment photographer.  These are the images.

Little Lotus Flower Design

Recently I’ve been designing a smaller motif for a new collection to  sit alongside the Blue Lotus.  This new collection is simpler in design and comes in a 2D form.  The pieces are made using sterling silver and will be available for Christmas.  The new work will be launched during the Centrepiece exhibition, which runs from 16th November to 23rd December in the Symphony Hall in Birmingham.  I’m currently designing the collection, which will include earrings, rings, charm bracelets, pendants and necklaces.  My first piece in the collection is a pair of stud earrings.  Now I need to complete all the designs and name the new collection!

Design Space Birmingham

Tomorrow will be my final day at the Design Space studio.  The programme has been an invaluable experience and gave me the opportunity to develop my practice and work alongside other inspiring designer/makers.  The programme was a year long, and provided me with a free workspace, business support, seminars with established designer/makers, an industry mentor, Miranda Sharpe, 30 hours new product development with the JIIC, and allowed me to take part at BCTF as well as Treasure London.  The programme also provides another 12 hours support with industry mentors for the next year in business.  If you are an emerging jewellery designer/maker or silversmith and have no idea where or how to start out in this competitive and difficult industry, I would definitely recommend that you apply for Design Space.  This year’s collective start in 2 weeks, and I wish them all the luck; make the most of the opportunity and enjoy!

International Jewellery London

Last Monday I made yet another trip down to London to check out IJL, a massive jewellery trade show based in London, with a view to taking part in the future.  It was a vibrant show with a large section for independent designer/makers, which gave me the opportunity to network and meet creatives that I had met while taking part at the Treasure show, and also new designer/makers that I had only read of in Professional Jeweller and Retail Jeweller.  I also had the opportunity to get a free photography sessions with Simon Armitt, who photographed three of my pieces, courtesy of Benchpeg.  The show was definitely inspiring!

New Blue Lotus Designs

I recently collected two new rapid prototypes from the JIIC.  I will be using these designs to make a new range within my current Blue Lotus collection, which will be smaller and two dimensional compared to the existing pieces in the collection.  Once complete, photos will be posted.
